JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp opened in Solio Game Reserve, Laikipia, Kenya, on 7 July 2026, according to the release JW Marriott issued that day. A February 2025 Marriott release had expected it to open in early 2026. Solio is a 45,000-acre private conservancy known for rhino conservation, with one of Africa's largest populations of black and white rhinos.
The camp has 19 tented suites, one of them a two-bedroom suite, set apart for privacy with views of Mount Kenya, the Aberdare Mountains, waterholes or open savannah. LW Design drew the low timber and canvas structures from the idea of the quiet presence of a rhino, and the suites have private decks, plunge pools and freestanding baths. Mavuno is the signature restaurant, cooking with open fire, Ember Bar and Lounge serves drinks by a fire, and a garden grows herbs, fruit and vegetables for the menus. The Spa by JW uses products from the Kenyan brand Jani.
Activities include guided game drives by day and night, walking and cycling safaris, birding and a visit to the Solio Rhino Orphanage. The camp is near Nanyuki Airstrip, about 30 minutes by air from Wilson Airport or a three-hour drive by road from Nairobi. Rates start from $1499 per person per night, all-inclusive, with accommodation, full board and twice-daily shared game drives among the inclusions.
